everyone's doin it!

literally, everyone, I think they said they were expecting 50,000 people this year. Its that time of year again where we sit in traffic till we get to the festival of colors and make a mess of ourselves! Apparently part of this Indian holiday (Holi) comes from an Indian story about a witch who burns kids in fire but then one boy escaped unburned because of his devotion to the God. I like this next part of the holiday though,

(from wikipedia):
One of Holi’s biggest customs is the loosening strictness of social structures, which normally include age, gender, status, and caste. Holi closes the wide gaps between social classes and brings Hindus together. Together, the rich and poor, women and men, enjoy each other’s presence on this joyous day. Additionally, Holi lowers (but does not remove completely) the strictness of social norms. No one expects polite behavior; as a result, the atmosphere is filled with excitement, fun and joy. (removes social norms... too bad Phillip missed this year he was the best at that part)

and then of course the biggest purpose of the holiday is to celebrate spring and all the colors!! wooo winter gone.

try to sing with the band with this in the air!

Jeremy wasn't too excited to go to the festival this year but I am glad he did =)
